[Kira sits under the camera, grinning a bit in expectation. She takes a deep breath as she looks around, and then addresses her audience, such as it is.]

Okay, so after getting settled in the first thing I did was go up on the deck. It's funny how you see movies and look at pictures in books, but it's totally true that nothing can prepare you for how vast space actually is. It seems like people have two reactions to it, either they're completely overwhelmed by it, like in a bad 'I can't take this' way, or they think it's amazing.

[She leans forward earnestly.]

It's amaaaaazing!

[She bounces in her chair, though gradually she slows down, and settles into a more serious expression.]

I haven't been assigned an inmate yet, and to be honest, I'm nervous. I mean, I'm supposed to help them, right? But what if I can't? What if they don't want to be helped? What if I have to - I don't know, I'm not particularly mean or anything. But what if I have to be?

[Her mouth scrunches up a little.]

I'll figure this out. I have to.

[Maybe indicating she has doubts or worries about her performance as a warden is a mistake, but well, live and learn, little kitsune.]

[Not that she's entirely sure he'd tell the truth.]

I don't think the Admiral sets us up with the hope that we'll fail.

I started as an inmate.

And what's made it so hard for you? Do you have a particularly difficult inmate?

Well, yes, but other things make it difficult. The divide between inmates and wardens. And you're taking responsibility for someone else's life. It shouldn't be taken lightly.

[She considers his words thoughtfully.]

And you think I'm taking it lightly?

[Her tone is curious rather than accusatory. She really doesn't know how to read him.]

I think most people who come here don't realize.

But that doesn't mean they're automatically going to fail. You should be supportive and help them to succeed, rather than presume they're going to suck.

I'm Kira. I...don't do anything yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to occupy my time until I have an inmate assignment.

[She pauses for thought at that.] I like music. And I like to read.

[She feels awkward admitting that her kitsune powers allow her to use virtually any weapon masterfully, and she doesn't know that she's going to be a lacrosse prodigy yet.]

I'm good at research. I mean, I'm not a super genius like Lydia, but I'm smart.

And there's a library.

Babs and Iris do research, too. They make things.

Oh, I can manage a little on the piano and maybe two or three chords on a guitar, I'm really more about singing. And listening to music, of course. [Her expression brightens, briefly at the thought, and the she considers.]

I've met Iris, she's a really nice lady. Babs, I haven't.
