Kira could be thankful that when she ended up in the forest, she had her katana with her. Maybe she would have been able to defend herself without it, but she didn't want to think about having to try.

On the first day, she spends most of her time keeping her distance from others, confused by how some of them seem inclined to steer clear of her in turn. By the second day she's to encounter Allison, and with a better understanding of what's going on, she spends the rest of her time trying to search for other benevolent souls and protect them. When she encounters people she believes are good or in need of protection, Kira teaches them a kanji that they can use to indicate they have been in contact with her.

When necessary she tries to pretend she's the nogitsune. She doesn't want to hurt - she hates the idea of having to kill - but she's prepared to defend herself if she has to. When she can, she runs unless forced to fight. She just wants to make it through however long it'll take to get safely back to the barge.

A darting shape trails curiously behind Kira for a few hours, making no sound. It's quick - turn your head to look, and it might not be there at all.

The white blur has caught Kira's eye more than a few times; she simply thought the creature was a local animal that was tracking her.

But it's been stalking her for quite a while, and finally the kitsune decides to turn the tables.

She finds a tree that looks like it might have reasonable cover, secures her katana at her side, and lays down to feign sleep.

Kitsune are tricksters, after-all.

Sure enough, this lures Mewtwo out - as soon as Kira goes still, its curiosity gets the better of it and it floats over and loops upside down to peer at her face. This is a new human!

Almost simultaneously, Kira's eyes - her golden, glowing eyes - flare as they open and her hand reaches up, seizing the little creature around the trunk of its little (furry?) body.

Sitting up, she peers at it as the glow in her eyes dulls, and instinctively she brings up her other hand to hold it more securely, and more comfortably for Mewtwo.

"Who're you?" Just because it looks like the most precious kitten Kira has ever seen doesn't mean it isn't evil.

Mewtwo cheeps, high-pitched and surprised. It is indeed fuzzy, covered in soft, smooth fur down to its clawless paws.

It is also wiggling a great deal, until the grip becomes more comfortable. Then it sits back on its haunches and blinks big, rounded purple eyes.

"Mew?"

Kira's immediate urge is to start cooing and petting, and that's probably exactly what she'd do if she wasn't in the middle of Murder Fantasy Island.

"I'm going to put you down." Kira says solemnly to the cat-creature. "And I'm going to bank on you not turning into a monster with ginormous claws who wants to eat me. Or trying to steal my breath. Okay?"

Without any ado, she settles Mewtwo on her lap, tense as if expecting the creature to suddenly try to eat her face.

"Meww?"

Why would it do that?

Mewtwo starts hovering again as soon as it is let go, and shakes itself briefly as if drying itself out. Grabbed! Interesting, but perhaps avoid in the future!

It doesn't take off and vanish, just flies in lazy loops and waves a front paw in greeting. It knows language, even if it can't really speak it. Hello! It thought you were sleeping!

Kira's mouth forms a little 'o'.

The kitty is flying. It's a flying kitty. And it's waving at her.

She peers at it incredulously.

"Do you understand me? Mew twice if you can understand me."

Of course, if it didn't understand her it may mew twice anyway, but Kira's trying to keep things simple.

"Mewmew."

It nods, for good measure, and drifts from side to side in the air. Humanspeak isn't so difficult.

"Holy crap." Kira's eyes go huge. "Let's just operate on one for no and two for yes. Are you from my barge? I'm pretty sure I'd have seen you before if you were, but you may have kept yourself hidden."

Of course, on Mew's Barge, Kira is the nogitsune, and she feeds on pain and chaos and strife. Not so inclined to appreciate a cute little kitten.

Her Barge? Is it hers?

It doesn't mew, just makes a curious whine. It's so new here, it doesn't know how to answer!

Kira takes note of the tone. Poor thing. But at least they've established a simple means of communication.

"Okay. Let's back this up. Are you from the Barge?"

"Mewmew."

More nodding. The big ship! It hopes it didn't crash, there was a lot of shaking

"Okay. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed you on the Barge I'm on." Kira studies the floating kitten (!) thoughtfully. "Do you need help?"

"Mew!"

It's just being friendly!

Mewtwo has questions of its own to ask, really, but it's long-since learned that humans don't understand what it's saying.

She lets out a sigh. "Then you better stay out of sight. There are a lot of people in this place who wouldn't think twice about hurting you."

Mewtwo puts both paws over its mouth and giggles, then floats forward to bump its forehead against Kira's gently. Thank you.

"You're adorable." Kira says earnestly, and then adds gently, "I have to go, though. I don't mind if you tag along or go off on your own or whatever, just be really careful. Okay?"

Kira rises to her feet, taking a quick look around this way and that.

"Mewmew."

Mewtwo floats up, a little, but stays in sight. Kira is nice! It is going to stay a little bit.
